The Chicago History Museum’s In the K/Now series, a focus on modern Chicago contemporary issues, is this month taking a literal look at the “fiber” of politics. The Sun-Times’ Laura Washington hosts a panel discussion titled The Politics of Fashion, a look at the relationship between political movements and the clothes we wear.

Music
The Umbrella Music Festival of Jazz and Improvised Music kicks off tonight, running through Sunday at different locations throughout Chicago. Representative of the efforts made by Umbrella’s members, local musicians who pool their talent and resources in order to reach a larger audience, the festival hits the Chicago Cultural Center and The Velvet Lounge, as well as regular Umbrella performance locales The Hideout and Hungry Brain.
