Ex-Blackhawk Pit Martin Dies
Former Blackhawks star Hubert (Pit) Martin died this weekend after the snowmobile he was riding crashed and sank into a lake. Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon released the following statement:

This is a very sad day for the Blackhawks family. Pit was a wonderful human being and a mentor to me. Growing up in the same town, I idolized him and then was very lucky to have a chance to play with him in the National Hockey League. He was such a great man that did so much for his family and the community. He is going to be missed by everyone in our organization. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Martin played for the Blackhawks from 1967 to 1978, being team captain from 1975 until 1977, and is the Blackhawks' seventh all-time scorer at 627 points (243 goals, 384 assists).

College Hoops
Just one game on last night's docket. Northwestern awoke from their food coma Monday night, defeating the UC Riverside Highlanders 59-43. The Wildcats shared the bounty, as four players scored in double digits. Guards Craig Moore and Michael Thompson combined for a quick eight points and two steals during a 27-second outburst midway through the first half, giving the Wildcats a comfortable lead for the duration.
