- Trying to get in on the pardoning game, Ald. Ed Smith (28th) has asked President Bush to pardon former alderman Larry Bloom. Meanwhile, state attorney general Lisa Madigan announced today she was opposed to Durbin's request to President Bush to commute George Ryan's sentence.
- Former Chicago police officer Mahmoud Shamah was convicted yesterday on five of six counts, including conspiracy, stemming from shakedowns of drug dealers. He faces up to 20 years in prison.
- Mob killer Frank Calabrese Sr. has been placed in solitary confinement after he once again made a death threat against a prosecutor.
- The Sox have a new Spring Training home: they're moving from Tuscon to Glendale, where they'll share a facility with the Los Angeles Dodgers beginning next spring.
- As if it hadn't yet, we can now firmly say Obama merchandise has jumped the shark. Or something like that...
