Blackhawks Blank Senators
Patrick Kane's crafty wrister gave the Blackhawks an early lead and goalie Cristobal Huet took care of the rest, as Chicago shutout Ottawa 2-0. In addition to Huet's impressive effort in net, the Blackhawks showed their defensive prowess on the penalty kill. Chicago thwarted six Ottawa power plays, including a 5-on-3 push in the first period. It was a night of firsts, as this marked Huet's first shutout in Chicago, and Troy Brouwer lit up the lamp for his first NHL goal on an empty net late in the third. The Blackhawks next see action on Friday, as they take to the road for a match with the Avalanche.

College Basketball
The Illinois Fighting Illini roughed up the Chicago State Cougars, 89-50 Wednesday night. Illinois' 7'1" Mike Tisdale led the scoring with a career-high 25 points, as the Illini took advantage of a height mismatch in the paint. The Illini once again dominated the turnover battle, this time forcing 29 miscues while only committing 15. The sharp-shooting David Holston recorded 17 points for the Cougars, 15 by way of the three-pointer.

DePaul was nipped by the Morgan State Bears, losing 79-75. The Blue Demons lost their stroke in the second half, just as the Bears' Reggie Holmes was finding his. Scoring 15 of the Bears' last 16 points, Holmes hit a clutch three down the stretch to give his team the edge. Dar Tucker managed 21 points for the Demons, but only converted on 29.4% of his shot attempts.
