Onto the shows:

Gallery 400 features The Shadow is a Bit of Ideology, a group show of artists commenting on the anxieties caused by political, economic, and personal upheaval as productive generators for form. Curated by Kelly Chen and Anthony Elms, the show runs til Jan. 24, 2009. 400 S. Peoria.

All RiSE Gallery is selling art at discounts of up to 40% off. Artists include Chantala Kommanivanh, Sebastien Lapointe and Isabelle Guimond. Friday, December 12, 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. 1370 W. Grand Ave.

Tandem Co-Op Gallery offers the "Ear Theater Audio Design Show," which isn't quite visual, but it has "design" in the title ... so we'll go with it. If you bring some gloves, you can have a free drink. Friday, December 12, 7:30 p.m. 3258 N. Seminary Ave.

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago's Sullivan Galleries hosts No End in Sight -- an exhibition featuring work by Aviva Alter, Marie Krane Bergman, You Are Beautiful, Burtonwood and Holmes, Young Cho, Grayson Cox, Masaco Kuroda, Tim Louis, Fred Nocella, Tim Pannell, Josue Pellot, ks rives and Nicole Kenney, Jesse Seay, and Sighn. "Before I die I want to..." Friday, December 12 through January 10, 4:30 p.m. - 7 p.m. 33 S. State St., 7th floor.

The Post Family play host for the celebration of the release of Proximity Magazine issue #003. The event will include work from artists featured in the issue including Sonnenzimmer, Sighn, Delicious Design League, Matt Siber, and John Salhus. Also catch a video by Jenni Rope, a reading by James Kennedy, and a special cover of Chris Estey's valentine to Jesus and rock 'n roll. The new Life Force Arts Center hosts "Ancient Art of the Goddess: A Year and a Day – Winter Solstice/Saturnalia/Cycladic Figurines," a slide show featuring art historian Ursula Rose. Rose presents a monthly slide show exploring images of the Goddess from various cultures. Friday, December 12, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. $20. 3148 N. Lincoln Ave.

Threewalls holds its yearly fundraiser. This year’s theme, Crystal Ball, combines fantasy, sci-fi and semiprecious stones under one roof. More than 60 works of art, drinks, dancing, fortune telling and the annual photo booth. Door prizes for the best fantasy tattoo and expect guest appearances by The Christmas Wizard and other fantastical beasts. Tickets are available at the door, $20 includes unlimited drinks (until they run out) and $30 includes drinks and one piece of limited edition stemware (your choice).
