  • President-Elect Obama's team is set to release a report that will clear Rahmbo of the Blago mess. Too bad, we were hoping for a wiretap transcript that would have made Glengarry Glen Ross seem like a Disney movie.
  • Ah, Christmas-themed irony, our favorite kind. Dozens of health department workers in southern Illinois became sick -- after eating ham at their own office's holiday party. That's why we usually go with an all bacon Christmas dinner.
  • Despite millions traveling over the holidays, beleaguered airline United has told their flight attendants union that more layoffs may be coming soon -- perhaps 250 more jobs next month on top of the 1,550 flight attendant jobs cut a few months ago. Expect the airlines to be next with their hat in hand in front of Congress any day now.
  • Raghuveer P. Nayak -- otherwise known as "Individual D" in the Blago criminal complaint -- has requested immunity from the feds in return for singing like a canary. It's yet unknown as to the extent of juicy tidbits Nayak can lend to the case.
  • Rumor has it that Chicago Public Schools plans to close or consolidate 20 schools, an increase from the 18 last year. Some will reopen under the Renaissance 2010 plan which is to open 100 new schools by 2010. Yeah, we don't quite get it, either.
  • Speaking of the CPS, current CEO Arne Duncan's deputy Barbara Eason-Watkins is at the forefront to be Duncan's replacement after he jets off to Washington, DC to shoot hoops with the POTUS. Oh, and focus on the education of the nation's children or something.
  • Another invasive species has hit Lake Michigan -- this time it's crayfish, introduced into the lake by folks using them as bait. Hey, if the city can provide enough drawn butter and hot sauce, we'll take care of that crawdad problem within a week.
