Friday Buffet

2009_1_16_Green_Zebra.jpg We're starting the Friday Buffet this week by giving a shout out to Green Zebra which is featured in Bon Appetit's February issue as one of the hottest vegetarian restaurants in the U.S. (Try the dish with the perfectly poached egg...it made us weep). Inaugural events will be covered by another entry today to keep your eyes peeled for some happenings. Let's get to the other events!

  • January 16 - 19: Eno at the Intercontinental Hotel will be celebrating the its 2nd Anniversary. A special, hard-to-find magnum of South African Graham Beck Brut will kick off the celebration on Friday, priced at only $10 a glass. Other rare wines that will be poured from magnums by the glass will include a 1999 Armando Parusso Nebbiolo blend ($12) and a 1999 Elio Altare L'Isieme Cabernet blend ($20). 505 N. Michigan Ave.
  • January 21: Head over to RA Sushi for a fun charity event. Different reality television contestants from Chicago will be competing to make the best sushi roll. Yours truly will be one of the judges. 7 - 9 p.m. 1139 N. State Street.
  • January 24: Marche will teach you how to make soup at their "Art of Soup" class. Chef Peterson will demonstrate how to create an at-home version of Marche's Signature French Onion Soup, Apple Quince Soup, Butternut Squash Soup and a hearty White Bean Soup. 833 W. Randolph, 11:30 a.m., $30.
  • January 25 - 30 and February 1 - 6: ChicagoOriginals, a group of restaurants unique to Chicago, will be hosting their second annual restaurant week(s) (Ed. note: this is also separate from the city Board of Tourism's upcoming Restaurant Week in February, which we'll be previewing shortly). All member restaurants (see a list here!) will discount a specially created 3-Course menu priced at $ 24.09 for lunch and $29.09 for dinner. Guests at both lunch and dinner will have choices for each course.
  • January 26 and for weeks after: Opera will be celebrating Chinese New Year with creations by Chef Beverly Kim: a menu of special appetizers, soups and/or entrĂ©es from these regions to give patrons an idea of the different culinary traditions that make up Chinese cuisine. 1301 S Wabash.     Week of February 2-8: Schezwan
    Week of February 9-15: Canton
    Week of February 16-22: Shanghai
