Blackhawks Silence Blues
The Blackhawks once again found themselves in overtime Saturday night, but this time came away with a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues. Chicago's Martin Havlat dumped in the wrap-around winner to break a 1-1 tie in the extra period. The 'Hawks, who only generated 19 shots on goal in regulation, were backed up by handsome net play from goalie Cristobal Huet. Huet made 27 saves, with St. Louis' lone goal coming on a power play early in the third. Chicago also capitalized on a power-play opportunity when right wing Troy Brouwer got the game's first goal on a laser from the blue line. The Blackhawks get a much needed breather on Sunday before facing the Minnesota Wild at the UC Monday night.

Spurs Stop Bulls
The Bulls winning streak ended at two when they lost to the San Antonio Spurs yesterday, 92-87. Chicago claimed the lead with 3:13 to play when Drew Gooden converted a hook shot and one to make it 82-81. The Spurs' Tony Parker answered with a whirling drive to the basket, and Manu Ginobili added a three pointer and six free throws to ice it. Chicago was led by Ben Gordon's 20 points, and got double-doubles from both Luol Deng and Andres Nocioni. The Bulls travel to New York Monday to take on the Knickerbockers.

College Basketball
Illinois couldn't fend off no. 10 Michigan State in a 63-57 loss, as the Spartans outscored the Illini 10-3 in the final five minutes.

No. 13 Notre Dame didn't match no. 8 Syracuse's 55 percent field goal shooting, as they suffered a 92-73 defeat at the hands of the Orangemen.

UIC led for most of their match up with the no. 18 Butler Bulldogs, but hit the wall late in the game with a five-minute scoring drought and lost 59-52.

Loyola topped the Valparaiso Crusaders 71-56, aided by a 40-23 advantage on the boards.

DePaul fell short in their 59-55 loss to the Cincinnati Bearcats, as the Blue Demons misfired on two opportunities to take the lead in the final 30 seconds.

NIU lost to Western Michigan 71-52, unable to keep up with the Broncos' barrage of 14 three pointers.
