As part of Women's Wellness Day at Design Dance, the Go-Go Lab will be conducting a 45-minute cardio go-go workshop. The day will also include Pilates, yoga, and nutrition workshops (delicious food included!) The perfect way to kick off your fitness plan this year and ensure you meet your goals. $35 per person. On Monday, January 26, Walkabout Theater Company and Collaboraction are holding a benefit for Goldbrick, a show opening January 27 at The Building Stage. This intimate evening offers a sneak preview of songs appearing in this world premiere production Goldbrick based on the music and lyrics of Jon Langford and co-created by Stephan Mazurek and Loren Crawford. $50 for 7 p.m. admission which includes complimentary 3 Floyd’s Ale, a meet-and-greet with the Goldbrick actors, a Goldbrick CD signed by Jon Langford and a ticket to the production. $10 includes 8 p.m. admission and free 3 Floyd Ale’s. On Monday, January 26, Kim Bobo, founder and executive director of Interfaith Worker Justice, discusses her new book: Wage Theft in America: Why Millions of Working Americans Are Not Getting Paid, and What We Can Do About It. Youth Science Fairs
Those who enjoy science, innovation and getting teary-eyed at the whimsy and innocence of children might check out the Future City Competition, featuring seventh- and eighth-graders who have designed future cities using Maxis' award-winning SimCity 4 Deluxe software. More than 25 Chicago area schools are participating. Dozens of Chicago area engineers (and architects) will review the Future City Models and listen to presentations as students present their Vision of the Future. After review by the preliminary judges, five teams will be selected for additional evaluation by a panel of distinguished architect/engineer judges. University of Illinois-Chicago. Hip-Hop Culturefests
Got something to say about our culture, our new president, our old president, or something we're not thinking of right now (all we're really thinking about right now is what Tom Daschle would look like in a broccoli costume)? Then get it all out at the Open Mic Academy: The State of Our Union, featuring special performances by visiting poets Roger Bonair-Agard and Idris Goodwin, and curated by Kevin Coval. This event is hosted by the Public Square, Young Chicago Authors, and Chicago Public Radio, and is part of CPR's day-long Winter Block Party featuring a live mural painting by Revise CMW, a debut gallery exhibition of works for sale by some of Chicago's most notable artists, and an evening event with William "Upski" Wimsatt.
