After all the fuss of the arrest, the press conferences, the hair, the Burris seating, and the recent media blitz, it's come down to this. By the end of the day, we will have a new governor. Even though we've been expecting it for a long time, it's hard to believe it's actually happening. So what exactly is going down today? Here's what we've been told:

  • 10 a.m. - The impeachment trial will resume. House Prosecutor David Ellis has rested his case so he will present his closing arguments.
  • 11 a.m. - This is the time at which Governor Blagojevich is expected to make his closing statement in his own defense. Or, as we expect, he'll walk up to the mic and tell Mike Madigan, "Go fuck yourself, Mikey!" The Governor will be allotted up to 90 minutes to talk.
  • Early Afternoon - After a recess, Ellis will have an opportunity for a rebuttal. Then, the Senate could vote on removal as early as this afternoon, we're hearing somewhere around 2ish. If so, then a removal from office would be immediately followed by the swearing-in of Pat "The Mighty" Quinn as the 41st Governor of Illinois.

But don't worry. Even if he's removed, Blago still gets to keep his pension. Well, unless he's convicted on criminal charges. And that's that. No word on when the criminal trial will begin against Blago, but that's a whole different circus. For now, we wait and hope that the Senate just puts this dog out of its misery. [CBN, S-T]
