Inaug-u-rave?

By Tankboy in Arts & Entertainment on Jan 30, 2009 5:45PM

2009_01_friendly_foes.jpg Life During Wartime is throwing an Inaug-u-rave at Hideout tomorrow, but don't let the title of the event scare you with images of spandex-clad hipsters with glowsticks since it features some of the best rock and/or roll we've heard in a while. Headliner Lasers and fast and Shit play heavy hooky borderline punk-metal with a DIY light show that has to be seen to be believed. These guys are so hardcore they build most of their musical equipment from common household objects, bent nails, and duct tape.

Opener Friendly Foes is a SUPERgroup i.e. they remind us of a cross between Superdrag, Supergrass, and Superchunk. They are the perfect vicious indie-pop Minneapolis-based band of 1986 / 1996 ... that didn't form until 2006 ... in Detroit. Their album was digitally released last year and landed in our Best of 2008 music list. We can seriously not say enough nice stuff about this band and they way they resurrected our belief in the healing powers of scrappy indie rock. They remind us of an era we thought was long past

So where do the "rave" fit in? After the show Life During Wartime DJs Mother Hubbard and Bald Eagle will take to the decks and keep the party going until the wee hours of the morning. We're hoping that some off the rock Hubbard has been slinging in recent sets drips onto Bald Eagle's Serato to veer the party into punk rock sock-hop territory. We can dream, right?
