Mavs Edge Bulls in OT
Dirk Nowitzki powered the Dallas Mavericks past the Bulls in a 115-114 overtime victory. Three Bulls scored over 20 points: Gordon (28), Thomas (23), and Rose (22). But it wasn't enough as Nowitzki and the Mavs proved too much for Chicago. After a predominantly see-saw regulation, the Mavs jumped out to a four point lead in the extra period, then extended it to six and never looked back. The Bulls finally play at home again Tuesday versus the Pistons.
Canucks Crush 'Hawks
Vancouver cruised to a 6-0 lead before the 'Hawks even scored, soundly beating Chicago 7-3. This despite outshooting Vancouver 39-26. Both Huet and Khabibulin played in net for the 'Hawks, but neither was particularly better than the other: Khabibulin allowed four goals, Huet three. Kris Versteeg finally got the 'Hawks on the board in second period to make the score 6-1, while Burish and Havlat added a goal each, but it was not nearly enough. In spite of 20 points from Craig Moore, Northwestern fell to Iowa 56-51...Notre Dame continued its free-fall, falling to UCLA 89-63...DePaul remains winless in Big East play after getting rolled 92-69 by Pitt...Buffalo had no problems squashing NIU 68-46...Loyola was no match for Cleveland State, who trounced the Ramblers 83-70...UIC continued its Horizon League struggles, falling to the Penguins of Youngstown State 68-60...Chicago State managed a win, edging Texas Pan-American 78-72.
