Road Trippin': Flossmoor Station Brewpub and Restaurant

We headed down to Flossmoor Station Brewpub and Restaurant last Saturday for their "Killer Kapowski" launch party. It wasn't our first visit to the south suburban brewpub. In fact, it's the trip down to Flossmoor that's one of our favorite aspects about visiting.

Located steps (literally) from the Flossmoor Metra Electric line, Flossmoor Station is a 45 minute train ride from Millennium Park. Restaurant management embraces the train motif, with antique railroad memorabilia throughout the bar and restaurant and a running model train set over the bar, complete with switching tracks. The food is classic pub grub; you can't go wrong with anything off Flossmoor's deli sandwich menu. A cup of Flossmoor's kettle chili is a necessity.

But the honey that draws flies to Flossmoor Station is the beer. Outgoing brewmaster Matt Van Wyk and his assistant Andrew Mason (who's also a frequent visitor to this site) brew an amazing breadth of beer styles for such a small brewpub, and the quality behind the beer is always top notch, one of many reasons Flossmoor Station won brewpub of the year at the 2006 Great American Beer Festival.
