Make It Solid Gold

By Veronica Murtagh in Arts & Entertainment on Feb 27, 2009 5:30PM

2009_02_GoldenFilter.jpg Cut Copy, Hot Chip and Hercules and Love Affair have proven that there is room on Chicago's dancefloors for more than juke and electro. Drawing on influences from post-punk to disco to the radio greats of the past, it seems electronic pop is gaining momentum in a big way.

We've had NYC's The Golden Filter on our radar for a while now as one to watch in 2009. Unsigned and unwilling to reveal the identity of their vocalist, The Golden Filter move beneath a veil of dreamy mystery. A good fit if you ask us for a trio infecting the musicsphere with a blend of well-produced disco-pop beats and breathy, enchanting female vocals. With a recent UK-released 7-inch on Dummy Mags new record imprint and remixes for Cut Copy, Empire of the Sun, Little Boots and Peter Bjorn and John added to their credits, The Golden Filter are ready to infiltrate Chicago's eardrums.

The Golden Filter with Yello Fever and Rocktapussy at Spandexxx tomorrow, February 27, at Sonotheque, 1444 W Chicago, 9 p.m., $10, 21+.

If you can't make it to tomorrow's show, catch The Golden Filter when they swing back through Chicago on tour with The Presets, April 8, at the Metro, 3730 N Clark, 9 p.m., $16, 18+
