Playwright and Screenwriter Horton Foote Has Died

2009_03_horton_foote.jpg Academy Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and screenwriter Horton Foote died today at the age of 92. Foote was considered one of today’s most important living playwrights, having penned Only the Heart, Six O'Clock Theatre, The Chase, Two's Company, The Trip to Bountiful, The Traveling Lady, The Young Man From Atlanta and Dividing the Estate, which recently ran for three months at the Lincoln Center Theatre in New York. In addition to writing for television, Foote also wrote the screenplays for Tender Mercies, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Trip to Bountiful and Of Mice and Men, among many others.

His work was celebrated in Chicago with a festival at the Goodman Theatre in February 2008.
