Johnny B.: WLUP Or WGN?
By Tankboy in Arts & Entertainment on Mar 5, 2009 6:25PM
Lewis Lazare reports today that Jonathon Brandmeier has not yet signed a new contract with WLUP-FM.
Rumors are spreading that WGN may be courting Brandmeier for their mid-afternoon time slot. Although, Brandmeier's team may be too expensive for the bankrupt Tribune Company.
Possible finalists for the WGN mid-afternoon slot could be Garry Meier or Kevin Matthews who is currently doing mornings in Grand Rapids.
In related news, Emmis Chicago has made some staff cuts. The Brand Manager for WLUP, Tisa LaSorte was let go as well as Marc Young, Program Director for WKQX. Radio-info says that Emmis hasn't had to do layoffs like other stations. They may try other tactics like having programmers oversee multiple markets to cut costs.
In the audio-visual side of things, Phil Rosenthal reports that WFLD-TV is not renewing Darian Trotter's contract. Trotter was hired by the station to help WFLD launch their 10 p.m. newscast. Management told Trotter the decision was not based on performance, but rather due to the economy.
