First Friday at the Old Town School

2009_03_Old_Town_School.jpg If today's weather gives you the urge to belt out a tune, bust out of your cubicle and head to Lincoln Square tonight for the family-friendly First Friday, the Old Town School of Folk Music's monthly open house.

Keeping its usual "everyone's welcome" mentality, the Old Town School encourages attendees to bring their latest song to workshop or whatever instrument they like to noodle on for the various jam sessions. Square dancing and yoga will also be in the offing.

More of a wallflower? Pick a beer from the cafe's surprisingly good selection, grab a sandwich, and check out performances by singer/songwriter Anne-Marie Akin and the old-timey WAZO County Warblers and the Fly Boys.

Old Town School of Folk Music, 4544 N Lincoln, 5 p.m., $5 donation
