Bruins Fend Off Blackhawks
The top team in the East flexed its muscle on Saturday, as the Boston Bruins defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 5-3. Chicago got off to a sluggish start, attempting only seven shots in the first period. Boston, meanwhile, fired 15 attempts and scored the game's first goal 10 minutes in. The Hawks' Jonathan Toews banked one off defenseman Aaron Ward late in the second to even the score at one, but the Bruins countered with a barrage of goals over the next six minutes to claim a 4-1 advantage. Chicago fought back with third-period scores from Kris Versteeg and Patrick Kane, but their fate was sealed when Boston scored an empty-netter in the final minute of play. Recently acquired Mark Recchi was responsible for two Bruins goals, while the Blackhawks must wait to play with their new toy, center Samuel Pahlsson, as he recovers from a bout of mono.

College Basketball
DePaul wrapped up the regular season with its eighteenth consecutive loss on Saturday, this one coming at the hands of the Georgetown Hoyas, 48-40. The Blue Demons didn't exactly come out on fire, scoring a mere two points in the first 11 minutes of the game and finishing the first half with only 15. Despite the anemic start, DePaul tied the score with a 9-0 run to begin the second, but couldn't sustain the offensive push as the Hoyas slowly crept back into the lead. Will Walker was responsible for half of the Demons' offense with 20 points, and also provided a defensive spark by stealing the ball six times. Having zero conference wins, DePaul is saddled with the sixteenth seed in the Big East tourney and will face the ninth-seeded Cincinnati Bearcats in Tuesday's opening round.
