Bad News Burris: Poll Shows Next To No Support in 2010

The Doomsday Clock for Roland "The Lord's Senator" Burris just clicked closer to midnight. A recently released Zogby International poll [.pdf] shows that support for Burris in the 2010 senatorial race stands tall at 5.3 percent. In most elections, we're pretty sure Snoopy gets more voter support than that. Alexi Giannoulias is the frontrunner in the senate race with both Dems and independent voters - although Giannoulias leads with independent voters by only 0.3% over Mark Kirk.

Speaking of the GOP side, Joe Birkett blows everyone else out of the water in the governor's race with 30 points between him and his nearest competetor in the poll. The thing is, that nearest competitor is State Senator Bill Brady - notably absent from the data is where Judy Baar Topinka, Birkett's old running mate, would fit into the equation. Other results show that Lisa Madigan has the edge over Pat Quinn with Democrats in the race for Governor (she hasn't even thrown her hat into the ring yet - but she's thinking about it) although he edges everyone in independent voters.

The poll was commissioned by the Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois, and The margin of error is +/3.9 percentage points, which ain't nearly enough to save Roland Burris. Sorry, Senator.
