Inching ever closer to a victory, the ‘Hawks lost in a shootout to the Edmonton Oilers on Friday, 5-4. The two teams traded goals the entire way, with Edmonton striking first. Chicago’s Dave Bolland, Adam Burish and Cam Barker laid the foundation for Martin Havlat, who’s third-period wrister forced the game into overtime. Despite a 43-26 advantage in attempted shots during regulation, the Blackhawks couldn’t muster any offense in OT. They recorded zero shots on goal in the bonus period but net-minder Nikolai Khabibulin kept Chicago alive with five saves at the other end. On to the shootout, where the Oilers ended it quickly, going two for two while the Blackhawks’ Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane came up empty. By adding a point to their season total, Chicago sits even with Vancouver at 85 apiece.
