Morning Box Score: 'Hawks Conquer Kings

2009_03_23_hawks.jpg The Chicago Blackhawks snapped a five-game winless streak with a 4-1 drubbing of the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday. The return of right wing Patrick Sharp was a successful one, as he scored twice and earned an assist for the slumping Chicago squad. Sharp's first goal was a calculated wrister midway through the opening period, which put the 'Hawks in front 1-0. Martin Havlat, who also scored twice for Chicago, extended the lead in the second period on a give-and-go from Sharp. The Kings made a game of it late in the third by posting their lone goal of the afternoon, but both Sharp and Havlat took advantage of an empty net in the game's waning seconds to seal the deal for Chicago. The 'Hawks also shined on the defensive end, allowing the Kings to attempt only 15 shots. The Blackhawks will face a stiffer test when the San Jose Sharks come to town on Wednesday.
