Sox Re-Up With Floyd

In addition to the moves Benjy mentioned earlier today, the White Sox also managed to lock down pitcher Gavin Floyd to a new four-year deal worth $15.5 million; the contract includes an option for 2013 that would bump the total cost to over $25 million. The contract breaks down like so:

  • 2009 - $750,000
  • 2010 - $2.75 million
  • 2011 - $5 million
  • 2012 - $7 million
  • 2013 (option) - $9.5 million

The Sox also tried to negotiate contract extensions with both John Danks and Carlos Quentin, but both players turned the team down. GM Ken Williams said the team is approaching players based on when they qualify for arbitration. [Sun-Times]
