Windy City Rollers Get Down and Derby In Bout Three

Who said the only March Madness had to be played on the hardwood? The ladies of the Windy City Rollers proved the action was just as chaotic on the derby track with a pair of great match-ups in their third bout of the season. In the first match, the Double Crossers (in black), led by jammers like Peg Legs and Riley Coyote, jumped to a 45-28 lead at the halfway point over The Fury (white). The Fury, 0-for-'09, found themselves way back but made a dramatic late run with 23 points on the last jam. It wasn't quite enough, however, as the Double Crossers moved to 2-1 on the season with the 98-81 win.
In the second match, the defending champ Hell's Belles (in red) rolled on the back of Athena DeCrime to a 46-31 mark at the halfway over the undefeated Manic Attackers (in blue). The Manics came out blazing in the second half with a 20 point jam from Malice With Chains to take the lead. Beth Amphetamine also jammed her way up front for the Manics, but in the end, the champion Belles were too much for the Manics to handle as the Manic jammers spent more time in the penalty seat than on the floor during the match's final minutes. The Belles ultimately won 107-78 to close out another action-packed, fun-filled evening at the UIC Pavilion.
The Rollers' next bout will be Saturday, April 4, but if you find yourself in Detroit next weekend, swing by the Masonic Temple Drill Hall to see your Windy City Roller All-Stars square off against the Detroit Derby Girls.
