Local Restaurants Charge For Tap Water (With Good Reason)

Now in its third year, UNICEF's Tap Project has grown from a New York-specific one-off to a national event. Through Saturday restaurants throughout the country will ask customers to donate $1 (or more) to UNICEF for something — tap water — some of us may take for granted.
UNICEF says that $1 will be enough to provide clean drinking water for a child for 40 days. Waterborne illness is the second leading cause of death for children under five years of age; over 900 million people lack access to clean water. With a lofty goal of reducing that number by half by 2015, every dollar donated counts.
You can find a participating restaurant near you by visiting the Tap Project website, where you'll also find reviews for specific restaurants and make reservations via Open Table. Or you can just look at the list of restaurants in the city limits we placed after the jump.
