A few odds and ends from the world of Chicago sports.

  • If the 2016 Olympics don't work out, maybe there's the World Cup. Soldier Field is one of the stadiums being considered in a bid by U.S. Soccer to host the FIFA World Cup in 2018 or 2022. Soldier Field was one of six sites that hosted matches during the 1994 World Cup, the last time the U.S. has hosted the tournament. U.S. Soccer sent out requests to 70 sites in 50 markets regarding their upcoming bid and hopes to hear back by next Friday. Bids are due to FIFA by May 2010 with FIFA voting on the sites in December 2010. To be eligible to host, a country must have at least 12 stadiums with a capacity of at least 40,000 and one stadium with a capacity of 80,000 to host the opening match as well as the final. • The Trib's Phil Rosenthal reports that the Cubs are going to announce a deal with Univision Radio's La Tremenda, WRTO-AM 1200 for rights to broadcast 20 Cubs games this year on the Spanish-language station. The deal would start with the April 21st Cubs-Reds game; WRTO already broadcasts Chicago Fire games as well as nearly 40 White Sox games.
  • Now that the Bears have a "real" quarterback, who will he throw the ball to? It seems a popular name to bandy about is the embattled Plaxico Burress. The Sun-Times' Carol Slezak says yay, the Trib's David Haugh says nay.
  • And, finally, from the juvenile category, we have someone that frustrated White Sox fans can vent their frustration on: this confused Weather Channel anchor.
