Brewers Bust Cubs
The Cubs lost an early-season heartbreaker to the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday, by a score of 4-3. Closer Kevin Gregg was entrusted with a 3-2 lead in the ninth, but struggled retiring the Milwaukee lineup. With one man down the Brewers' Rickie Weeks knocked a double to left to plate Jason Kendall and tie the game at three, and then a wild slider from Gregg allowed Weeks to take third. The next pitch gave Corey Hart a base on balls, setting Chicago up for the double play, but when Gregg produced the grounder the Cubs were looking for, shortstop Ryan Theriot made a split-second decision to go home with the throw instead of turning two. Weeks just beat Theriot's indecisive throw and the Brewers walked away with the win. The meltdown nullified a two-run homer by Koyie Hill and squandered a 10 strikeout, three-hit start by Rich Harden. Chicago and Milwaukee will do it again today at 6:05.

Twins Shell Sox
The White Sox generated some offense in their game against the Minnesota Twins on Friday, but a catastrophic seventh inning put them on the losing side of a 12-5 final score. Trailing 4-3 at the start of the seventh, the Sox 'pen surrendered six runs before retiring a batter. Clayton Richard and Mike MacDougal were each responsible for two earned, and D.J. Carrasco coughed up another four. Starter Jose Contreras was saddled with the loss after tossing five frames and allowing four Milwaukee runs. At the plate, Paul Konerko hit his first big fly of the season, and Carlos Quentin and Josh Fields picked up a pair of RBIs apiece. The second game in the series will played today, with a 3:05 opening pitch.
