Our friends at the Tribune and the University of Chicago Magazine know what Easter is really all about: the candy. The two publications recently held contests revolving around a particular Easter sweet that is near and dear to our hearts: PEEPS®.

Readers at both publications were encouraged to create dioramas with the brightly colored, granulated sugar-covered marshmallow treat shaped in the form of bunnies and baby chicks. The Magazine asked U of C alumni and their families to construct a "Maroon-inspired" scene with the candy as the main characters: Bunnies and chicks living the life of the mind at home, Enrico Fermi as a PEEP® and a night at the U of C's watering hole, Jimmy's.

Submissions were in on March 29, and judges will name the first-, second-, and third-prize winners who will win cash prizes, gift boxes from Just Born Candy Company (PEEPS®' manufacturers) and have their dioramas featured in the magazine's May/June edition on April 14 on UChiBLOGo.

The Tribune contest did not have a theme, and participants' entries ranged from the political to great moments in pop culture.

This year's winner, Randy Rowe of Columbus, OH, wowed judges with his imaginative diorama commemorating the 70th anniversary of the "Wizard of Oz."

"Beyond creative and detailed. So original and it's obvious a lot of time was devoted to this," said one judge.

"Amazing attention to detail. Peeptacular!"

Rowe's creation was one of more than 250 entries the Tribune received this year. He won a Just Born gift box which will include a new Lenox China PEEPS® item as well as PEEPS® and other Just Born candy.
