Spiaggia Comps Dinner For 60

By Chuck Sudo in Food on Apr 14, 2009 4:00PM

Spiaggia'sTony Mantuano is living a charmed life. The James Beard Award-winning chef is opening Terzo Piano in the Art Institute's new Renzo Piano-designed modern wing next month, Spiaggia is celebrating its Silver anniversary, his Wine Bar Food cookbook is one whose recipes Anthony's been more than willing to share, and Spiaggia is a recipient of the Obama effect. Not that Mantuano needed any help there.

Last night, Spiaggia surprised a near-packed dining room by comping their dinners as a show of appreciation in honor of 25 years of service. That's 60 people, a few of whom probably wished they ordered the tasting menu after Mantuano made the announcement.

Last night was just the start of a series of surprise gifts Spiaggia will offer customers in recognition of 25 years in business. The surprises will happen on the 13th and 25th day of each month, 13 symbolizing Spiaggia's actual birthday. If you ever wanted to check the place out, those might be the marquee dates to do so.
