Tigers Maul Sox
The Chicago White Sox ran into Armando Galarraga and the Detriot Tigers this afternoon, losing by a final score of 9-0. Galarraga allowed only six baserunners over 6.1 innings, outperforming his Sox counterpart Jose Contreras. Contreras pitched four scoreless, but surrendered two in the fifth and another in the sixth before getting the hook. That was all the Tigers needed, but Mike MacDougal spotted Detroit four more runs in the seventh and eighth to officially make it a blowout. With the rain-shortened series ending on a down note, the Sox will look for some new life when they face the Rays in Tampa tomorrow evening.

Rockies, Marquis Beat Cubs
A late rally by the Chicago Cubs came up well short as they fell to the Colorado Rockies 5-2. Derrek Lee hit a solo shot off Huston Street to kick-start the bottom of the ninth, followed by a walk to Mike Fontenot and a single from Reed Johnson. The momentum died, however, as Jason Grilli stepped in to relieve Street and got Geovany Soto to ground into a game-ending double play. Cubs starter Rich Harden only lasted three innings in his second appearance of the season, allowing four walks, five hits and four earned runs. The Cubs' bullpen was effective with damage control, but the offense struggled to string anything together against the familiar face of Jason Marquis, who pitched seven strong innings. The Cubs stay put for a four-game series against St. Louis that begins tomorrow afternoon.
