Sox Slug Rays
The White Sox notched a decisive 8-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays Saturday evening. Jermaine Dye and Paul Konerko spotted starter Mark Buehrle two runs in the top of the first, and that lead would grow to six before the Rays brought one across. Konerko and Carlos Quentin both had three hits in the ballgame, including a pair of jacks to left in the fifth inning. Buehrle got the win, holding the Rays to three runs and eight hits over 6.2, allowing Scott Linebrink and D.J. Carrasco to close it out in the late innings. The Sox have a chance to take the series from the defending A.L. champions this afternoon in Tampa.
Cubs Best Cards
The Chicago Cubs won an extra-inning affair on Saturday, 7-5 over the St. Louis Cardinals. Aramis Ramirez made amends for an 0-for-5 day at the plate with a walk-off shot in the 11th inning, giving the Cubs their second win of the series. Starter Ryan Dempster surrendered four runs over six innings, and the Cards got one off Carlos Marmol in the eighth to send the game into extra frames. Kevin Gregg, Aaron Heilman and Angel Guzman combined for four scoreless innings of relief, buying time for the Cubs to put up the game-winning run(s). The two teams will wrap up their four-game series tonight at Wrigley, weather permitting.
Fire Tie Wizards
The Chicago Fire earned a 2-2 draw against the Kansas City Wizards in Toyota Park last night. Brian McBride was responsible for both Chicago goals, scoring at the 12 and 20-minute marks to put the Fire up early. The Wizard's Josh Wolff would not be denied, however, scoring twice late in the game to steal the win from Chicago. Wolff's second score came at the 89-minute mark, as he bounced a header past goalie Jon Busch. Busch had a busy night in net, facing nine shots on goal in the contest. The Fire's next match comes Saturday in Columbus.
