It’s Free Cone Day Mostly

It’s that time of year once again, when Ben and Jerry’s fans rejoice with free ice cream! Started in 1979 to celebrate the first anniversary of Ben and Jerry’s, Free Cone Day has been running for 31 years. Every year, scoop shops around the country give out free ice cream to all comers. Lines are often long, but the ice cream is always tastier when you don’t have to pay for it. Free cone day is today, and scoop shops will be open from noon to 8 PM. Patrons can have one scoop of any flavor left in the store.
A note of caution: be careful that the store you are going to is actually participating. In the city, the store at Navy Pier will be participating, but the scoop shop at Midway Airport will not. In the suburbs, stores in Oak Park, Evanston and Palatine will be participating as well. Check out your local store online to see if they are participating.
