Sox Top Orioles
The Chicago White Sox got back to business Wednesday night with an 8-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles. John Danks cruised through seven innings on the mound, allowing one run on four hits, and received ample support from the White Sox bats. The Sox charged ahead 4-0 by the bottom of the third and tacked on another four runs in the late innings to ensure the victory. Chris Getz and Josh Fields had three hits apiece, with Fields and Jim Thome both going deep for Chicago. The White Sox will look to end their three-series road trip on a high note this evening with another win over Baltimore, before returning to the Cell for a home stand against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Reds Blank Cubs
The Chicago Cubs couldn’t figure out Cincinnati starter Johnny Cueto Wednesday evening, falling to the Reds 3-0. Cueto was good for seven scoreless and held the Cubs to just four hits and five base runners. Ted Lilly nearly matched Cueto’s brilliant performance, but was a little overambitious in the field. Lilly made a nice stop on a bunted ball by Alex Gonzalez in the third inning, but sailed an off-balance throw past first-baseman Derrek Lee to set up an unearned run. The Reds would then add one run each off relievers Angel Guzman and Kevin Gregg to put the game away. Lee and Alfonso Soriano had the best showings at the plate for Chicago, going 2-for-4, while Milton Bradley was hitless with three strikeouts in his return. Carlos Zambrano takes the hill this afternoon for the rubber game.
