In a wild six-goal second period, the Blackhawks fell behind the Calgary Flames by three goals before mounting a furious comeback attempt and tying the game before the second intermission. But it wasn't enough, as the Flames added two more goals in the final period to beat the 'Hawks 6-4 at the Pengrowth Saddledome, and send the series back to Chicago tied 2-2.
Chicago jumped to a 1-0 lead early in the first period when Patrick Kane scored off a terrific play and pass from teammate Patrick Sharp. Calgary answered with a goal of their own minutes later, and then scored three more goals -- two by Olli Jokinen -- early in the second period to take a 4-1 lead. Calder Cup finalist Kris Versteeg scored on a power play, followed by goals from Cam Barker and Samuel Pahlsson that evened the score before the close of the period. An Eric Nystrom score with less than seven minutes left in the third period gave the Flames the victory -- they added an empty net goal in the closing minute of the game.
After two games in Calgary, the series shifts back to Chicago for game 5 on Saturday night. The series alternates games between Chicago and Calgary from here on out, so the Hawks and Flames will head north of the border for Monday's game 6. Chicago will play host if a seventh game is necessary next Wednesday.
