Review: Katherine Anne Confections

The profusion of local candy and chocolate companies over the past few years has been amazing to watch for any sweets-loving Chicagoan. Artisans have sprung up producing chocolates, caramels, lollipops, toffee, and everything else that someone with a sweet-tooth would want to put in their mouths. Sometimes, the challenge isn’t confined to making a good product, but setting yourself apart from the competition. On that score (and on the tastiness meter) Katherine Anne Confections is a winner.
First, we should mention that the chocolates are tasty. Limited edition flavors like Carrot Cake and Bananas Foster are available alongside standards like Crème de Menthe, Hazelnut and Coconut Rum. Based on our samplings, the best treats available from Katherine Anne are her caramels. Available in Honey Vanilla, Chocolate, Chocolate Walnut and a limited edition Strawberry Balsamic, these are some of the best caramels we’ve ever tasted. They may not have the flavor variety of Das Caramelini, but the gooey texture and rich burnt sugar taste more than make up for it.
Katherine Anne Confections is also committed to sustainability. Like many high-end retailers, she uses as many locally sourced materials as possible. But she has gone the extra mile - all of her packaging is made from a treeless paper, and all of her paper goods are made with at least 30% post-consumer content.
But wait, there’s more. As an added bonus, Katherine Anne has teamed up with North Shore Distillery to create “Chocolate and Cocktails.” For your next event, you can order hand made cocktails from Katherine Anne and pair them with custom, hand-made cocktails featuring local spirits from North Shore Distillery. You can even turn it into a seminar on mixology and chocolates. Booze and chocolate - what could be better? Contact Katherine on her website for more information.
