Me-TV's Me-Too Remembers Bea Arthur All This Week

By Rob Christopher in Arts & Entertainment on Apr 27, 2009 6:40PM

2009_4_27beatricearthurmaude.jpg She led a long, full life. Yet, like every icon's passing, her death still came as a shock. Bea Arthur's passing has inspired remembrances from far and wide (and did you know her final act was penning a letter protesting foie gras?)

Local WCIU channel Me-Too will be airing episodes of All in the Family and its spin-off Maude nightly at 9 p.m. through Thursday. Bea played Edith Bunker's outspoken liberal cousin Maude on All in the Family, and garnered such positive feedback that producer Norman Lear gave Maude her own show, which ran from 1972-1978. The series tackled topics like abortion, alcoholism, metal illness and domestic abuse, all of which were provocative for TV at the time. The Beachwood Reporter has an amusing deconstruction of the first episode. It also notes that the series is not currently in syndication, which makes Me-TV's tribute that much more welcome.

So what's your favorite Bea moment (aside from the Star Wars Holiday Special of course)?

Me-Too can be seen on Channel 48, Channel 26.3, Uverse, Channel 48, Comcast Channel 247, RCN Channel 22 and WOW Channel 171.
