Sox Stroke Seattle
On Wednesday, the White Sox took the series against the West's best Seattle Mariners, winning the rubber game 6-3. Sox starter Gavin Floyd labored through six innings on the mound but ultimately was effective, surrendering only three runs on 10 hits. All of Seattle's scoring came in the fifth, when the Mariners strung together four straight hits and jumped on top 3-1. The Sox responded in the sixth, as Wilson Betemit doubled home Paul Konerko and Alexei Ramirez tied the game with a sac fly. That set the stage for Carlos Quentin and Jermaine Dye, who hit back-to-back bombs in the seventh to give Chicago a 5-3 advantage. A.J. Pierzynski also homered for the Sox in the second inning, marking the hundredth round-tripper of his career. Matt Thorton earned the win for Chicago with one scoreless inning, and closer Bobby Jenks picked up his fifth save of the season. The White Sox next see action on May 1, when they travel to Texas to take on the Rangers.

D-backs Dump Cubs
The Chicago Cubs were run ragged by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday, losing game three of the series 10-0. The Cubs' Ryan Dempster didn't bring his best stuff, giving up five runs on six hits over six innings, but it mattered little as Chicago failed to generate any supporting offense. Credit some of the Cubs' struggles to Arizona starter Doug Davis, who pitched seven innings of two-hit baseball. The D-backs spotted Davis a three-run lead in the first, capitalizing on three hits, a walk and a passed ball by catcher Geovany Soto. Ryan Dempster seemed to settle in after his rough start, but Arizona struck again in the seventh against Chicago's bullpen. In his first appearance since Friday's knee injury, Carlos Marmol coughed up four earned runs as he walked four and lasted just one-third of an inning. The loss put the wraps on a 2-4 road trip for the Cubs, who hope the weather cooperates for tonight's home game against the Florida Marlins.
