Theriot Slams Cubs Past Marlins
Offense wasn't an issue in the Cubs' 8-6 victory over the Florida Marlins on Friday. Trailing 5-2 in the sixth, Ryan Theriot cleared the bases with his first career grand slam, putting Chicago up one. Then in the seventh Geovany Soto singled home a run and Mike Fontenot picked up his second RBI of the game on a sac fly, providing the Cubs with a three-run cushion. It wasn't quite the same story of success on the mound, however, as starter Rich Harden surrendered five earned in just 3.2 innings of work. Harden got the hook in the fourth after he walked three consecutive batters to load the bases and push home a run, and then plunked Jorge Cantu to give the Marlins their 5-2 lead. The Cubs employed five pitchers in relief, who combined for two hits, five walks and a run over five-plus innings. Rule-five pick David Patton earned his first major-league win and Kevin Gregg notched his second save of the season despite allowing a run to cross in the ninth. The Cubs will look to string together a couple wins when they take the field at noon today.

Sox Rally, Beat Rangers
The White Sox battled back from a three-run deficit on Friday night to beat the Texas Rangers 4-3. Scott Podsednik made more than just the ladies happy when he crossed the plate as the game-winning run in the top of the seventh. Podsednik, who went 2-for-4 in his first game back with the old ball club, was driven home on a triple from the bat of Chris Getz, who also had two hits in his return from a fractured finger tip. Jim Thome laid the foundation for victory in the previous inning, tying the game with a bases-clearing, three-run double off Rangers reliever Derek Holland. The offensive support helped Mark Buehrle win his fourth game of the season, as he turned in another quality start for the Sox. Upon Buerhle's departure in the seventh, relievers Octavio Dotel, Scott Linebrink and Bobby Jenks shut the door for Chicago, allowing only two base-runners over the final three frames. The Sox share a seven o'clock start time with the Chicago Bulls this evening, as they try to claim the series from the Rangers.
