Lower Bills for ComEd Customers Starting Next Month

By Kalyn Belsha in News on May 3, 2009 8:30PM

2009_05_03_comedbills.jpg Beginning in June, the approximately 3.8 million customers of Commonwealth Edison Co. who live in Northern Illinois can expect to see a 7.5 percent decrease in their household electricity bills -- a savings of $6.36 a month for the average residential customer.

Reasons for the dip in cost include lower electricity costs nationwide and a “reverse auction” process by which Illinois "bids" for electrical power, a market practice challenged by Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, who filed suit against ComEd because she said the auction process favored ComEd over other competitors. Either way, many Chicagoans are about to have $1.59 more in their pockets each week. Feel free to supersize your Monday coffee from now on! [Crain’s, S-T]
