Mister Preteen Word Power

By Marcus Gilmer in Miscellaneous on May 6, 2009 5:25PM

Area man delivers dictionaries to third graders. On the surface, it may seem like a fuzzy-lensed feel good story, but it's actually pretty cool. In this morning's Tribune, Diane Rado profiles Theodore Utchen, a.k.a. "Dictionary Man," a name earned as he's donated 10,000 dictionaries to 3rd graders in Wheaton and Glen Ellyn school districts over the last six years. Said Utchen, "I feel if we can get kids started early in life with improved communication skills, this will make life more meaningful for them. The secret to great relationships is communication...Proper spelling and using the right words has always been a hang-up of mine." Check out Rado's full profile of Utchen here.
