On May 18, the Chicago City Council will hold hearings on the 75-year lease that the city signed with a subsidiary of Morgan Stanley to privatize the city's parking meters. 49th Ward Alderman Joe Moore sponsored the ordinance that called for the hearings.

"We want to look at how they got the contract and how it's been implemented," Moore said of the hearings. He made no mention of how hard the council will look at the 40 aldermen (Moore included) that voted to approve the deal, Daley's rush to push it through, or the lack of transparency in the process.

If you want to hear more about the parking meter controversy - and who doesn't? - be sure to check out this week's Chicagoist podcast in which Karl talks to Ald. Tom Allen about his proposed legislation that would mandate a 30 day waiting period on privatization measures.
