Pace Gets Priority

By Marcus Gilmer in News on May 7, 2009 9:20PM

Under a proposed plan, some Pace buses could get traffic light priority along some routes thanks to a service called "Arterial rapid transit" or ART.

The buses could automatically signal a traffic light that a bus was approaching, and depending on traffic conditions, the light could go green more quickly. This would be used only if a bus was running behind schedule, Wilmot said.

ART service is being considered for Milwaukee Avenue between Niles and Jefferson Park, Dempster between O'Hare and Evanston, Harlem Avenue in west Cook County, and 95th Street and Halsted in the south suburbs.
