Last Second Mother's Day Plans: Beverly Breast Cancer Walk

The John Hancock Center during October 2008's Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
"Why have the walk on day associated with mothers? It makes perfect sense," spokeswoman Elida Solis said."People do this with their moms and families and friends. It has become a tradition for many to do the walk, and then go out to a Mother's Day brunch together," said Solis, the marketing director at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park.
Starting at 8:00 a.m., approximately 10,000 people will walk the three-mile route, starting in Ridge Park. It's not too late to register to participate online or to sponsor a participant. You can also register at the walk Sunday morning for $35 per adult and $20 per child. Cost of registration includes a free t-shirt. All proceeds will go to the cause and to the creation of a new digital mammography system at the hospital.
If you can't make it but would like to participate in a similar future event, the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer will take place June 6-7. "Training Walks" are scheduled around Chicago next weekend.
And in case you haven't noticed, the John Hancock Center's crown of lights has been pink recently to promote breast cancer awareness.
