Chicago Community Ventures recently awarded City Provisions Catering and Eventsand Irv & Shelly's Fresh Picks as part of its Sustain Illinois competition. Irv & Shelly's, as readers know, delivers local organic and seasonal produce, meats, dairy and breads to its subscribers and is one of the more popular CSA programs in the area.

City Provisions owner Cleetus Friedman (pictured) also focuses on catering, monthly supper clubs and seasonal farm dinners using local produce and organic foods. Friedman also has a strict recycling program in place, an organic composting program where waste is preserved and given to the farmers Friedman sources his product as feed, and a biodiesel bus used to transport participants of his farm dinners to and from the events.
