Svengoolie Now America's "Favorite Horror Host"

By Karl Klockars in Arts & Entertainment on May 28, 2009 9:00PM

Chicago's long-time favorite late-Saturday-night horror host, Svengoolie, can add another honor to his resume. This year's "Rondo" awards, short for the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards, created by the Classic Horror Film Boards, chose to award Sven the title of "Favorite Horror Host." Sven beat out a full field of competitors like Penny Dreadful, host of Shilling Shockers in New England and Dr. Gangrene, host of Chiller Cinema in Nashville to take the honor.

Sven couldn't make it out to the awards ceremony at the Wonderfest convention in Louisville, KY, so he taped an acceptance speech that WCIU has kindly provided on their website. Video of that comes after the jump (warning: it's an auto-start video), but video of the acceptance speech as it happened at Wonderfest is luckily available as well.

So congrats, Sven! So what if it's not an Oscar, an Emmy, a Tony, a Razzie, a Webby, or a...well, anything else. But any chance to celebrate a living legend and a piece of Chicago's local television landscape shouldn't be bypassed - and hey, how about you hit us up for an interview on our Podcast Series? No matter what happens, hopefully WCIU chief Neal Saban will continue to allow you many happy returns to the crypt.
