A league source reports Chicago Bulls Assistant Coach Del Harris will soon retire, ending his 50-year coaching career.

His retirement opens up a spot on Bulls' head Coach Vinny Del Negro's coaching staff. The Tribune considered Pete Myers and Sacramento Kings assistant coach Randy Brown as possible candidates. Harris has one year left in his contract, which the Tribune reports the Bulls are expected to "honor" in part.

Harris, who turns 72 next month, has had a impressive career since he began coaching in 1959. His NBA coaching career began in 1976 and with it saw wins and accolades including NBA Coach of the Year in 1995 with the Lakers and leading the Houston Rockets during the 1981 NBA Finals. Harris has also coached in four different countries including China and Puerto Rico.
