Sox Beat Brewers
The White Sox had a field day against Manny Parra and the Brewers, scoring six runs in the second inning of a 7-1 victory. Parra coughed up five hits and three walks in that fateful inning, as Jayson Nix, Gordon Beckham, Scott Podsednik and Paul Konerko all drove in runs for the Sox. The outburst ended Parra's day after only five outs, while in the Sox camp starter Jose Contreras pitched eight shutout innings, allowing only two hits and two free passes. Contreras has now thrown sixteen frames since his return to the Bigs, conceding only three hits in that span. Nix, Brian Anderson and Ramon Castro had two hits apiece for Chicago, with the recently aquired Castro adding a solo shot to the Sox's tally in the fifth. The Sox and the Brewers play the rubber game today at 1:05 in Miller Park.

Twins Topple Cubs
The Cubs lost to the Minnesota Twins on Saturday, by the fitting score of 2-0. The Cubs, who have scored the fewest runs in all of baseball over the last 30 days, were blanked by Minnesota's Anthony Swarzak. Swarzak four-hit Chicago through seven innings, as the Cubs didn't advance a runner past second base until the ninth. In the ninth, Andres Blanco bunted Milton Bradley and Derrek Lee into scoring position, but the Twins' Joe Nathan retired Kosuke Fukudome and Ryan Theriot to end the threat. Fukudome twice struck out with ducks on the pond, as his batting average has plummetted 40 points in the month of June. The Twins earned their runs off Rich Harden, who allowed five hits and struck out nine in his six-inning return from the D.L. Jason Kubel went yard in the top of the second and Joe Mauer added the second run with base knock in the third. The Cubs will try to stave off the sweep today at 1:20.

Fire Fall to DC United
The Fire came up short against DC United on Saturday, losing 2-1. Jaime Moreno gave DC the early lead with a penalty kick at the 24' mark, but Chicago answered with a fine shot by Marco Pappa nine minutes later. The game didn't remain tied for long, as DC's Christian Gomez put the home team back on top with a free kick just before the intermission. The second half was a scoreless affair, with the Fire's best chance at earning the draw coming on a penalty kick in the 49th minute. Josh Wicks denied Brian McBride's shot and DC United got the win. The game flip-flopped the two teams in the standings, as DC now holds a one-point lead over the Fire in the East. Chicago will try to ford the Rapids next Saturday in Colorado.
