The great part of Lollapalooza is the music. The not-so-great part is the crowds. For those of you who love the music but hate the festival scene, Lollapalooza weekend provides the city with plenty of preshows and after shows. For more, check out the list of all of the so-far-announced post-Lolla shows.

Washington, DC-based electronic act Thievery Corporation is a long-standing turntable favorite. Formed out of DC's Eighteenth Street Lounge (or the ESL), Thievery Corporation fuses world music, dub and jazz with the electronic. I was lucky enough to live in DC and frequent the fantastic ESL during the act's early days and it was always a unique and sophisticated experience. The duo of Rob Garza and Eric Hilton feature an ever-rotating cast of live musicians accompanying their electronic beats for a live performance that is unforgettable. Thievery Corporation play the official Lollapalooza preshow at House of Blues on Aug 6.

Band of Horses are an act we hope sticks around for a very long time. Sweeping compositions and nods toward southern rock makes the seven-piece an act that appeals to both modern and roots rock fanbases. Their 2007 release Cease To Begin turned on the mainstream and we can't wait to see how this band matures over their future releases. Band of Horses play the official Lollapalooza after show at the House of Blues on August 7.

TV on the Radio have played Chicago numerous times and never fail to put on an ambitious show that fans eat up. This band has gained acclaim at the speed of a runaway freight train and we suspect even more notoriety in the latter half of 2009 with singer-guitarist Kyp Malone's recent announcement that he will debut a new solo project titled Rain Machine this Fall. TV on the Radio play the Double Door on August 7 with fellow Brooklynites Chairlift.
TV on the Radio with Chairlift, Friday, August 7, Double Door, $38, Tickets on sale Saturday, June 27 at 12 p.m. via Ticketmaster.
