Cubs Bounce Back To Top Brewers
The Cubs bounced back from Saturday's trouncing to take another one from the Brewers, 8-2. The Cubs won three of four against Milwaukee to take the series and remain within striking distance of first place. The Cubs got on the board early as Derek Lee belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to give the Cubs an early lead. Jake Fox also smacked a home run in the fifth, helping the Cubs add some more runs to their tally. And starter Ted Lilly, who learned just before the game of his All-Star selection, pitched lights out, giving up just the two runs on nine hits and striking out nine over 6.1 innings. Aaron Heilman and Carlos Marmol combined to shutout the Brewers the rest of the way. The Cubs have a chance to make a big dent in the Cardinal's 2.5 game division lead when they come to town this weekend for a four-game set, but first they have to get past the pesky Braves. Tonight's game gets underway at 6:05 p.m. (CSN).
Sox Drop Another to Royals
The White Sox have a new streak, one they're not so excited about, as they lost their second straight to the Kansas City Royals, 6-3. Alexei Ramirez and Josh Fields got RBIs in the third and fourth innings, respectively, and the All-Star snubbed Jermaine Dye let his bat do the talking with his 20th home run of the season late in the game, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Royals. Clayton Richard gave up four runs in only 3.2 innings on the mound and D.J. Carrasco allowed two more runs in 2.1 innings pitched. Still, in spite of losing two straight, the White Sox finished their road trip at 5-2 and have an off day before welcoming in lowly Cleveland tomorrow night, who the Sox just swept last week. The Sox remain 2.5 games back of Detroit in the division.
