Has the number of presents you’ve had to buy for someone else’s wedding exceeded the number of dates you’ve had this year? Oh, um, yea, us neither. However, if you’re getting sick of watching other people bask in their blissful coupledom, you know there’s really only one solution: some good ol’ fashioned schadenfreude. But who would actually be desperate enough to put his dating life (or lack thereof) on live display for your drunken amusement and self-esteem boosting? Chris Yonan, author and star of the one-man show The Idiot’s Guide To Dating.

Guided by the self-help book “The Complete Idiot’s Guide To Dating,” Yonan created the show based on his own experiences, and has been performing it in New York for about a year. We have first-hand reports of its hilarity, but lest you think this show is just another play about dating, check out the trailer (sound probably NSFW). Musical theatre nerds will especially appreciate this promo (more SFW).

Yonan himself recommends that you come properly sauced, and luckily there are drinks available at the theater. If you were thinking you’d spend your Monday evening with a more highbrow cultural activity, we should warn you that Steppenwolf’s screening of the National Theatre Company’s production of Phèdre is already sold out.

The Idiot’s Guide To Dating, July 13 only. Gorilla Tango Theatre, 1919 N. Milwaukee, Tickets $10.
