Morning Box Score: Home Run Derby

By Marcus Gilmer in News on Jul 14, 2009 3:00PM

If you missed it last night - and we can't really blame you - the Home Run Derby was held and in between the insufferable "BACKBACKBACK" calls of Chris Berman, Milwaukee Brewer Prince Fielder walloped 23 total homers and edged Nelso Cruz in the finals by a 6-5 tally. Fielder also had the longest home run of the night, blasting a shot estimated at 503 feet.

ESPN unveiled their newest toy, the Ball Tracker, which used Doppler Radar to track the ball's path through the air - think FOX's puck tracker from years ago. Thing is, the tracker's path resembled, at best, and MS Paint trail and had a hard time showing the actual location of the ball. (Note to ESPN: we complain because we love!)

Anyway. Watching Fielder jack all those homers last night - and seriously, can we get this thing down to a two-round event? - reminded us of the one big homer Fielder was denied back in April, courtesy of Cubs center fielder Reed Johnson, who robbed Fielder of a grand slam in what is still easily (***Marcus' Cubs Bias Alert!***) the best catch of the first half.
